HitchHikers and SitReps

From: Brian, Ryan & Lori (bconnoll@marksonrosenthal.com) | Date: 2003-07-07 19:27:10 UTC
TeamGreenDragon picked up a few Hitchhikers over the long weekend .

Woody ( which we somehow missed at the Moose Hill Gathering ) was
found in one of the boxes of the awesome " Trekking For Tracks "
series in Princeton MA

Also found " When You Wish Upon a Star " at this same series ( Did I
mention how awesome these stamps are , yet ? )

We also picked up " In Flanders Field " at the " Otter Brook Dam "
box in Keene NH

All have or will be moved along .

Thanks All !!

I think it may have been mystery boxes that people don't like the status for,
because it may lead to the location of the box (if you had gone to other
boxes in the same area for instance).

:-) I think regular boxes are safe.

Yes...I agree about mystery boxes...care should be taken as to whether you
should mention those in relation to other boxes. Some mysteries don't even
reveal what state they are in...but I would maybe contact the owner offlist to let
them know.

So then I guess something like this would be a No No

After that, we went to find Box 2 of the Frenchtown Park
series, THe North South Trail "The Pines", Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations, Traveling Valentine HH, Strix Varia, Lil' Butterfly, and
North
Camp. All in all, a great day! Thanks to Butterfly and Moonstone Baby!

We cherish receiving Sit-Reps. They are few and far between. There's
about 3 people out there that will email us when they go find the
boxes....and thats usually in the first week. We've decided to put
maybe 1 more HH out and thats it due to the fact that we have not
heard about our first HH since Patrick and Amy moved it to mansfield
(and I know someone has found it since). Its discouraging
sometimes. Also have not heard anything about Gray Rock extras and
very little about the large Avery Tract series.

I agree not to mention mystery finds...it will give a general locale
away. I don't think its a bad idea to wait a week or two and
say "within the past month we found XYZ mystery". Thats kind of neat!
I will say I look at all the sit-reps that people post in the CT / RI
area. You can pick up a lot of "what to expect" by reading these
reports. Its also nice to know whats hot and what has not had
visitors in a while.

Exactly! You can bet your sweet bippy that I'm paying close
attention to any mention of Strix Varia!

Interesting thread about SitReps/mystery boxes. I recently had
similar conversations with a couple of boxers out this way in regards
to folks listing the boxes they have found on their personal web
pages, and what the feeling was about including mystery boxes and
bonus boxes, which may have been found on the same date as other
boxes in the area, thus giving hint to the location of the mystery
box.

My personal feeling is that if somebody is prudent enough to be doing
research on a box on the talk list and other 'boxers web pages, then
if they can garner a few hints to a mystery box in this way, more
power to them. After all, a mystery box is about research and
keeping your eyes and ears open for clues.

But that is just my 2 cents, and may be greatly reflective of the
relatively small number of boxers and boxes in my area. I certainly
can respect the viewpoint of those who wish for them to remain
unmentioned.

Before I read any replies to this posting, b/c I haven't checked in a
while, I want to say to you please continue your sitreps. I truly enjoy
reading them. I'm in Atlanta, so no of the locations make sense to me,
but I just like reading the continual persual of lboxes. If people
think you've divulged too much, just be more obscure about the location
and more detailed with the adventure. That's mostly what I enjoy
anyway.
Hope to hear from your journeys,
Mark

I am smiling... for the longest time I wondered the same thing, and
thought I must be the only person who didn't know because the term
was thrown around quite frequently on the list.

It wasn't actually until just a couple of days age, earlier in this
thread, that I got the answer... I believe it means "situation
report."
